After a challenging ordeal lasting five days, tourists who found themselves stranded in the flood-ravaged region of North Sikkim are finally being airlifted to safety. The recent natural disaster, coupled with a dam collapse in Sikkim, has left areas like Lachen and Chungtham in a state of devastation, with roads blocked by piles of debris.
Amid these dire circumstances, a significant number of tourists found themselves marooned in Lachen. Efforts to rescue them have commenced as soon as the weather allowed.
Relief supplies were dispatched by helicopters from Pakyong in Sikkim to areas including Lachen, Lachung, and Chungtham on Monday morning. Army helicopters were deployed to evacuate numerous tourists from Lachen, safely transporting them to the Ringhim helipad, where they received accommodation and medical assistance from the army.
